There are a number of ways to move around on Magnetic Island and ensure a hassle-free holiday. From our convenient local Sunbus service, eco-friendly electric scooters and e-bikes, as well as rental services for scooters, and a variety of cars. Additionally, you can enjoy over 25km of interconnected walking trails that span across the island's villages. Here's a comprehensive guide on getting around Magnetic Island during your vacation.

SUNBUS

Leave the car at home and use our great hop-on and hop-off bus service! Sunbus meets each SeaLink service at the Nelly Bay terminal with two buses, one heading towards Nelly Bay (via the esplanade) and Picnic Bay, the other to Horseshoe Bay passing Arcadia (home to the famous Alma Bay) and The Forts Junction. Please note you need cash to jump on the buses; find the timetable here.

E-SCOOTERS AND E-BIKES

See the island with a low carbon footprint and choose electric, purple beam scooters that connect Nomads (Base Backpackers) and Alma Bay travelling along Marine Parade and over Gabul Way. Magnetic Island Roaming offers electric road-registered bikes, giving users access to West Point.

TAKE THE PATH LESS TRAVELLED AND HIT OUR WALKING TRAILS

The Magnetic Island Walking Trail Network stretches over 25km. These interconnected walking tracks and trails travel through protective parks and council land, ensuring a seamless journey. The network offers a remarkable opportunity to explore the island's captivating landscapes and enchanting villages. As you traverse these routes, you'll have the chance to reconnect with nature, meandering through valleys and ascending over majestic mountains. Embrace the beauty of Magnetic Island from a unique perspective as you immerse yourself in its natural wonders along these picturesque walking trails.

DRIVE AROUND

We understand that having access to a vehicle is sometimes the most stress-free way to travel. If you don't bring your own vehicle, several hire companies are available on the island. One main road connects our villages, and speed limits are clearly indicated with signs. Additionally, driving on our beaches is both illegal and unacceptable.

PARKING

Parking is available and free at each of the main villages on Magnetic Island. At Forts Junction, you'll find parking spaces for cars, scooters, bikes, and coaches. This junction is the starting point for the Forts and Yida walking routes (Route 2 - Forts to Horseshoe Bay via Arthur, Florence, and Radical Bays). It's important to note that free camping is not permitted on Magnetic Island.

LOCAL TOUR COMPANIES

We recommend booking with a tour company if you want to discover some local secrets on your holiday. Parts of the island are not accessible by land, and several local companies can help you access our hidden gems. Booking a tour means you won't miss the island's best-kept secrets.
